TODAY (2/10)-MoDOT to Host Public Meeting for US 61/Route 80 Intersection Project near Matthews, MO

Join Us!

SIKESTON-The Missouri Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10 to discuss improving the intersection of U.S. Route 61 and Route 80 near Matthews, Missouri. The meeting will be held at the Nutrition Center in Matthews, located at 301 West Main St.

During the meeting, MoDOT will share two alternatives for this safety improvement project—installing traffic signals or constructing a roundabout. The meeting materials include an overview of potential right-of-way impacts, cost, and safety and traffic performance highlights of each alternative.

Tentatively, construction could begin as early as June 2027. Once work begins, it will be underway for approximately nine months. Motorists should anticipate delays, but the intersection will remain open to traffic during construction.

The public meeting will be open-house style, and visitors can stop by anytime between 4 and 6 p.m.

To view the meeting materials and share your thoughts, please visit the project website at modot.org/6180Matthews. The website includes a video simulation showing each alternative, the meeting handout, exhibits and an opportunity to comment.

Comments will be accepted through Feb. 24, 2026.

For more information, please contact MoDOT Project Manager Donna Philpot at (573) 472-5347 or MoDOT's Customer Service Center toll-free at 1-888-ASK MODOT (275-6636).
